Belmont's Curse
'Belmont’s Curse' is an original artwork by artist Katsuya Terada, created as the cover artwork for Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, the 2026 game and latest chapter in the Castlevania series, released during the series’ 40th Anniversary year. More than promotional artwork, it brings together two remarkable legacies: 40 years of Castlevania and decades of Katsuya Terada’s contribution to Japanese pop culture art and illustration.
Three editions
'Belmont’s Curse' is available through Cook and Becker as a collection of three official fine art print editions. Two editions are produced as giclée fine art prints on Smooth Cotton High White 315 gsm paper, while an ultra-limited large-format edition is produced on the same premium paper and features an additional screen-printed embellished gold effect. Every edition is accompanied by an official Castlevania 40th Anniversary Certificate of Authenticity, issued specifically during the franchise's 40th Anniversary year.
For collectors, the combination of Terada's original artwork, the significance of the Castlevania anniversary, and the limited nature of the editions makes 'Belmont’s Curse' a must-have piece of contemporary video game art.
About Katsuya Terada
Katsuya Terada hardly needs an introduction to followers of Japanese illustration and video game art. Over a career spanning several decades, his work has appeared across some of the medium’s most celebrated franchises. For Nintendo, Terada created a remarkable body of illustrations for The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. At a time when the limited visual capabilities of early consoles left much of a game's world to the player's imagination, his illustrations helped give those worlds a richer, more elaborate visual identity. His celebrated work for games continued with the Japanese Super Famicom edition of Prince of Persia, for which he created the striking cover illustration, Virtua Fighter 2 and many more games.
Terada has cited Jean “Moebius” Giraud as a major influence, recalling that seeing Moebius's work as a teenager was a formative experience. He has also spoken of the profound influence of Japanese illustrator Noriyoshi Ohrai, whose dynamic movie posters, book covers and advertisements made a lasting impression on him. His visual vocabulary was further shaped by manga, cinema and literature, all of which contribute to the distinctive mixture of realism, fantasy and imagination found throughout his work.
